Do It Yourself[1] is the thirteenth episode from Season 8 of Modern Family. It aired on February 15, 2017.

Summary[]

Feeling empowered after his successful do-it-yourself project, Phil convinces Jay to co-invest in a property he has always wanted to develop. Meanwhile, Claire's new obsession with a TV chef and her new love of cooking Sunday dinners hasn't been as tasty as she thinks. Haley is the family's only hope to add a little spice to the situation. At the Pritchett-Tucker House, Cam and Mitchell see that the family is too reliant on technology, so they attempt to teach Lily the importance of hard work, which ends disastrously. Back at the Pritchett's, Jay feels replaced when he sees Gloria has hired Coach Gary to coach Joe and serve as a handyman.[2]

Plot[]

Luke helps Phil to fix the dryer in the basement. To his surprise, Phil actually manages to fix it. He feels like a god and convinces Jay to invest with him in the Dunphy's tower construction.

Meanwhile, Gil Thorpe wants to scare Phil after he made an offer, which makes Phil doubt himself but his friend Bob tells him that the offer is accepted.

Jay discovers that a coach Gloria hired makes better than him by advising Manny and teaching Joe how to play baseball. Even if he is jealous at first, he finally learns that the Coach actually wanted learn from him as he desires to open his own firm, specializing in gazebos.

And for Mitch and Cam, this week, they want to get ride off all technologies stuff and teach Lily hard work. Their first task consists of throwing a wasp nest away but their clumsiness causes the wasps to attack Cam on the face, disfiguring him.

Finally, Claire and Haley go to a cook class given by a chief. The chief despises Claire's work but congratulates Haley for her work. Haley is stuck between two chairs and finally rallies on Claire's side, much to Phil and Luke's chagrin.
