Mitchell Vincent Pritchett is Jay and DeDe Pritchett's son and Claire's younger brother. In "Pilot", he and Cam adopt a Vietnamese baby girl named Lily. He is a high-strung person. He received an undergraduate degree from Cornell and a law degree from Columbia University. As of "The Wedding (Part 2)", he is married to Cameron; his husband. Mitchell, Cam and Lily adopted a white cat and named him Larry; Lily's suggestion, when they couldn't adopt another baby, after things went awry with the mother of the baby.
At most times he is the exact opposite of Cam which usually causes disagreements. Cam acts as a counterbalance to Mitchell. He used to suffer from ornithophobia, which is the fear of birds, until he became acquainted with Spencer's bird. He also cooks chicken and he feeds it to the people he loves. Mitchell tries his hardest to stray away from disappointing people and his family unless he is pushed to the edge to tell them the truth. He is known to be a little sassy at times, but will usually try tto tell the truth unless it is going to be hurtful for him to hear something back or it's going to be painful for someone else to hear. Mitchell is known to be very loving towards his family members but can sometimes get into aruguments with them over things that are viewed as important to him, in "Closets, Closets, Closets, Closets!" we see that Mitchell gets a job working for his father's arch enemy but still wants to take it. Altough his father doesn't accept the choice he still goes ofr it as he doesn't want to not have a job due to his Dad's feelings. The fact that Mitchell took the job then results in Jay seeing Earl again and fighting once again. Jay and Earl have never resolve this fight.
Mitchell, without wanting to, can get a little irritable when he is under stress, he can accidentally lash out towards family members when he doesn't mean to, although his family knows what's wrong and will forgive him, this was demonstrated when Mitchell didn't have a job for a couple of weeks and wanted very badly to start working again. Mitchell is also known to be quite a sarcastic person. The very first time Lily cam home, Mitchell wasn't as worried about bonding with her, as he was worried about what sharp objects were around the house, Cam has said that he spent more time having to baby proof the house than spending time with Lily.
In "Fizbo", Mitchell was seen making a comment to a guy at a gas station when the guy was first rude to him, however when the guy confronted him on his comment, he was the first to back down and say that he didn't want to fight with him as he isn't much of a fighter. Cameron as Fizbo stepped in and broke up the fight.
Mitchell likes to wear anything classy, he dresses to the complete opposite way of his husband, Cameron. Mitchell is in ok shape for anyone his age although he doesn't do any exercise. Mitchell is a ginger with blue eyes. Mitchell likes to wear a belt with most things and very sensible work shoes.
We view all of the family in Season 1 and get to know them a little: their personalities, their quirks, their pet peeves, thier love for their own family at the end of the day. Mitchell and Cam adopt Lily in the very first episode. Mitchell finds it hard to tell his family the news at first, as he knows that his family can be very judgemental, however Cam persuades him to tell his family. When Mitchell breaks the news to his family, Jay at first thinks that the reason Mitchell has adopted a baby is because him and Cam broke up, Jay then begins talking before hearing Mitchell tell him they haven't and tells Mitchell that he knows Cameron can be a very dramatic. Mitchell having had enough of Jay critising Cam, defends him telling him that Cameron is not a dramatic person. Cameron walks and confirms Jay's thoughts when he dramatically brings in Lily in his arms, Lion King style.

Mitchell finds himself in a difficult position. when he finds himself jobless, their family seems to now be running off of Cameron's income. Mitchell is stuck having to find a hobbie with painting for a day but is told that he is having a mid-life crisis by hid Dad, Jay. Mitchell tries to get back into his old job, being a lawyer after Jay tells him to.
Mitchell has baggage with his father. Jay was a tough father growing up and took a while to accept that his son was gay (even though it was obvious in childhood). This has led Mitchell to very much want to appeal to his father, however it doesn't take long for one to disappoint the other. Jay has recognized his mistakes with his son and has tried to reflect better understanding with his stepson, Manny. Despite Mitchell's complaints, he learned patience in dealing with his father and strength in acceptance (though it is often forgotten).
Claire is Mitchell's older sister, whom he is close to. Though they had different friends standings growing up, Claire enjoys how much she has in common with her brother. They share similar hobbies, such as exercise, craft-making, figure-skating and persnickety habits with high standards for their families and themselves:
In "En Garde", it is revealed that Claire and Mitchell formed an ice-skating team when they were younger, but right before the regional finals, Claire decided she didn't want to skate anymore. It was Mitchell's one time to impress his father and Claire bailed on him. Mitchell confronts her about ice skating. Claire says that she had got bigger and Mitchell couldn't lift her anymore. He dropped her a lot in practice. She apologizes, and they hug. Later, Mitchell confesses that he always hated ice skating but still participated because, while it was going on, they didn't hate each other as brother and sister, and Mitchell has missed that. Hearing this, Claire starts making her ice-skating poses and they end ice-dancing together.
In "Strangers on a Treadmill", Claire enlists Mitchell's help to tell Phil that his jokes for the the SCARB (Southern California Annual Realtors Banquet) are unfunny, but ends in a disaster and the two finish arguing.
In "Aunt Mommy", during a dinner with Phil, Mitchell, and Cameron, Claire offers her egg to Mitchell and Cameron so they can have a half-Pritchett and half-Tucker baby. But the two couples are really regretting it in the morning and try to tell each other that they changed their minds. Mitchell and Claire finally decide to definitely to not do it even though they love each other very much.
Lily is Mitchell's adopted Vietnamese daughter. Lily was born in 2009 in Vietnam. Mitchell is very committed to his daughter and his husband Cameron but is often distracted by work.
Gloria is Mitchell's step-mother, Gloria and Mitchell don't spend a lot of time with each other but when they do it's very loving:
In "Moon Landing", Jay asks Mitchell for legal advice for Gloria who has been involved in a car crash. While Mitchell thinks that it is not Gloria's fault, Manny informs him that it was his mom's fault since she is a terrible driver. Mitchell tries to bring up the possibility that it was her fault but Gloria gets mad accusing him of being stereotypical. She leaves saying that she does not need him as a lawyer anymore. A little bit later, she comes back to apologize and to ask for Mitchell's help again for a second car crash. This time she crashed into a restaurant while she was attempting to leave.
In "After the Fire", Claire thinks that Mitchell is trying to transform Gloria to DeDe, but Mitchell tells her that he's not doing that. Claire then confesses to Gloria that she thought that she preferred Mitchell before her, and Gloria tells her that she does prefer Mitchell before her.
In "Express Christmas", Gloria realizes that Mitchell and Claire miss their mother and she gives them a hug to comfort them.
In "Goodnight Gracie", while they are in Florida to attend Phil's mother funeral, he agrees to represent her in court as she was arrested in Florida because after moving and subletting her room in a house there, her roommate turned their apartment into a brothel.
In "The Verdict" we see that Gloria gets kicked off of dury duty and she goes to Mitch for help as she knows he's a lawyer.
Phil is Mitchell's brother-in-law. They don't spend much time together, but they treat each other like brothers:
In "Strangers on a Treadmill", Mitch tries to tell Phil that his jokes for the the SCARB (Southern California Annual Realtors Banquet) are unfunny, but Mitch can't go through it after seeing Phil's sad face.
In "Tableau Vivant", Phil has to find a way to tell Mitch, that he is fired from his part-time job at the real estate agency. When Phil goes to Mitch's house to tell him about his dismissal while Mitch also tries to tell him that he does not want to continue working at the estate agency. Mitch bails out and he does not say anything and Phil believes that Mitch understood what he was trying to tell him. When Mitch appears at the agency later, Phil no having other choice, he finally tells him. Mitch is stuck in the elevator for two hours knowing he has been fired. The idea of losing his job does not seem to thrill him since he has never been fired before in his life.
In "Diamond in the Rough", Claire and Cam want to try their hand at flipping a house while they're at it, and Phil and Mitchell fight over who will be the bad guy to tell them no. Claire and Cam finally find out what they were trying to do, and get really mad at their significant others.
Alex is Mitchell's niece. They don't spend much time together but there are some episodes in which they are seen interacting:
In "Express Christmas", while they go to buy a Christmas tree with Lily, discover that they have a lot in common.
In "Lifetime Supply", when Mitchell wins an award from the California Bar Association for his work in environmental law, Cam puts in the mantle another trophy he won in the farm next to Mitchell's award, and Mitchell gets a bit mad at him for this. Later, Mitchell talks to Alex about this and she agrees with him, as Claire one time took a couple of participation ribbons Haley and Luke won and put them next to her big plaque. This makes Mitchell to realize that he was acting like a 14-year-old girl.
In "Yard Sale", Claire, Mitchell, and Cameron try to make Alex understand that her boyfriend, Michael, is gay, but she doesn't believe it.
Pepper is Mitch and Cams' gay friend, Mitch met his husband at one of Peppers' game nights and then started dating after they shared a moment in Charades that is talked about in "Come Fly with Me".
Jamarcus is a gay friend of Cam and Mitch, we first hear of him in "The Verdict", when Mitch and Cam are "interviewed" where Mitch states that Jamarcus and Raymond broke up 3 months ago and were together for almost as long as Cam and Mitch are.
Raymond is a gay friend of Cam and Mitch, we first meet him in "The Verdict" we meet him outside of a shop where he asks Mitch and Cam how they are and Mitchell accidentally invites him to a party that no one really wnats him at, especially his ex-boyfriend Jamarcus. Mitch and Cam, in an "interview" say that Jamarcus and Raymond broke up three months ago. Jamarcus got all of their friends and he got all of the confidence to go shopping in his pyjamas.
Cameron has been Mitchell's baby for almost nine years. The two men are opposites in personality because of their contrasting upbringings. Cameron grew up on a farm, was very good in athletics, had a supportive family and isn't afraid to be flamboyant which contrasts greatly with Mitchell's conservative, contemporary childhood. This has worked well (and challenged) them over the years because Mitchell's good sense levels out Cameron's theatrical whims and Cameron's assertiveness has helped when Mitchell shows meekness. A good example of Cameron being a strange but great boyfriend is in "Fizbo"; Cameron is a professionally trained clown, which bothers Mitchell, but even in costume Cam is effectively protective when Mitchell gets in a tiff with a rude man at a gas station. Cameron is often concerned with Mitchell's bad habits, such as hiding affection in public, overthinking or becoming over competitive, or holding onto baggage from his parents.
In "Suddenly, Last Summer", gay marriage is approved in the state of California so the couple consider how the other would propose to one another (to family members--not with each other). Both come up with romantic and silly structures, though on their way to their joined surprises they get a flat tire. In doing the mundane task they sincerely reminisce on their relationship, both get on one knee and mutually agree to marry the other.
In "The Wedding (Part 2)", after a lot of misdeeds, they officially get married.
